It was recently announced by the Prime Minister of UK Boris Johnson that casinos and betting shops will be allowed to re-opened without COVID-19 restrictions from July 19, 2021.

The move has been widely welcomed by the BGC Chief Executive, Michael Dugher, considering the fact that UK casinos employ 11,600 people and had contributed £500m ($692.5m) to economy prior to pandemic.

On such announcement, BGC Chief Executive, Michael Dugher said: “We strongly welcome the Government’s intention to remove the remaining Covid restrictions on July 19, which will provide a much-needed boost to the economy.

“It is particularly good news for hospitality venues like casinos and their staff, as the businesses have had to endure many, many months of closure and crippling restrictions.”

Dugher added: “Throughout the pandemic, casinos have spent millions of pounds on best-in-class anti-Covid measures and will continue to ensure their venues are as safe as possible, for customers and staff once the remaining restrictions are lifted.”

The relaxation of the restrictions implies that wearing of masks in public places is no longer a compulsory requirement. Additionally, social distancing rules need not be adhered to.

It is being hoped that the easing of restrictions will help boost UK’s economic sector’s recovery.
