Back in July, Hulu brought its 4K content to Apple TV and Chromecast Ultra. And now, Hulu rolls out 4K support to Xbox One and support for Amazon Fire TV and LG WebOS to arrive this week. The company also has future plans to expand the support for various other platforms.
“While Hulu’s library of HD and 4K Ultra HD supported content continues to grow, at this time, it’s limited to a select list of programming, like all Hulu Originals. HD programming can be watched on most supported devices with the latest Hulu app.”
Here are the speeds Hulu suggests you need in order to stream at different resolutions:
- Standard Definition (SD): 1.5 Mbps
- High Definition (HD) 720p: 3 Mbps
- High Definition (HD) 1080p: 6 Mbps
- 4K Ultra HD: 16 Mbps
Amazon Prime Video also includes its own originals in 4K and around 50 other licensed films.
Since Netflix has a much larger library, in order to access Netflix’s 4K library you’ll need its ($15.99/mo) Premium plan whereas accessing Hulu’s 4K library does not require an upgrade. Amazon Prime Video also includes its own originals in 4K and around 50 other licensed films.
