Valve has reportedly issued a new update to Steam focussing towards its recommendation feed to be more precise and diverse while suggesting titles, by making algorithmic changes and bug fixes. From now on, ‘More Like This’ and the ‘Recommended for You‘ sections have also been added to the store. This comes as interesting news since the Steam Store’s discovery system has been often criticized for suggesting titles that don’t really fit user preferences.
“Previously, when customers would look for games by browsing the recommendation feed at the bottom of the homepage or the ‘More Like This’ sections, they weren’t seeing as many different games as we would’ve liked,” Valve said. “Furthermore, we were receiving lots of feedback that ‘Recommended for You’ felt too biased towards only the most popular games and didn’t feel very personalized.”
Since gamers most likely know how to look for big releases likeĀ Gears 5, Valve further notices that those defining moments have knocked smaller ones from being recommended, so it’s presently intending to surface all the small games and less prominent ones in its recommendation feeds.
Valve even in the past has been found involved in enhancing better discoverability. It has been working on experimental tools like the machine learning-powered Interactive Recommender and another tool Deep Dive.
