In the light of the recent mass shooting at a Walmart store in El Paso, Texas, which left 22 people dead, Walmart, the world’s largest private-sector employer has ordered its employees to remove all violent video games imagery from its stores. But what is more interesting is the fact that firearms and ammunitions are still on sale in Walmart stores. The news comes in a day after ESPN and ABC announced a delay in the first-ever Apex Legends Esports Tournament.

“We’ve taken this action out of respect for the incidents of the past week, and this action does not reflect a long-term change in our video game assortment,” says a Walmart spokesperson.

Many Democratic presidential candidates have come forward and spoken up requesting Walmart to stop selling guns post the mass shootings.

“The weapons they sell are killing their own customers and employees,” Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts wrote on Twitter on Friday morning. “No profit is worth those lives. Do the right thing — stop selling guns.”

Another Walmart representative Randy Handgrove says it isn’t confirmed yet if the move is a temporary one and whether the promotions will eventually return.

Walmart in an internal memo has directed its employees to remove all marketing materials showcasing violent imagery, shut down gaming consoles and turn off screens displaying violent trailers and gameplay especially Xbox and PlayStation.
