Hospital

A night long power failure at a hospital in Bhopal resulted in the death of 3 new born babies. The blackout, which started at 7 pm lasted till early morning 6 am, resulting in a lot of damage to the patients as well as life of 3 new born babies.

According to the reports, the hospital was recently declared as one of the best hospital in the vicinity for maternity services. The power blackout started early in the evening and though, the generator wasn’t used despite being available in proper situation. No one at the hospital could justify the reason behind not using the generator for such a long power blackout.

The district administration has ordered an inquiry, however, the district medical officer claims that the babies did not die of power blackout. He stated that 2 of the babies died in the day time and power failure can not be held responsible for the same, however, even he failed to justify the reason behind such a long blackout provided there was a generator in the hospital.

The district medical officer claimed one of the children died of asphyxia. Asphyxia, or neonatal asphyxia is a medical condition where the new born baby dies of deprivation of oxygen. In most cases, the oxygen is provided to the baby in ICU, and ICU machines need electricity to function.

We will still not have a clear picture of the case until an official report comes out. Stay tuned for updates.
