Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to start a five-day State visit to the United States of America and Egypt, starting from tomorrow. In a press briefing in New Delhi, Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra stated that at the invitation of US President Joseph Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, Modi will undertake an Official State Visit to the USA from the 21st to the 23rd of this month.
Kwatra mentioned that the visit will commence in New York, where the Prime Minister will lead the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga at the United Nations Headquarters on Wednesday. The International Day of Yoga was designated on June 21st by a resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly in December 2014.
The Foreign Secretary further stated that Modi will then travel to Washington D.C., where he will receive a ceremonial welcome at the White House on Thursday and meet President Biden to continue their high-level dialogue.
He said, the US President and the First Lady will host a State Dinner in honour of the Prime Minister on Thursday evening. Kwatra said, Modi will address a Joint Sitting of the U.S. Congress on 22nd June.
He said, on Friday, the Prime Minister will be jointly hosted at a luncheon by US Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Bilnken.
The Foreign Secretary said, Modi is scheduled to have several curated interactions with leading CEOs, professionals, and other stakeholders. He will also meet members of the Indian Diaspora.
Kwatra said, at the invitation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt, the Prime Minister will also embark on a State Visit to Egypt from the 24th to the 25th of this month. This will be Modi’s first visit to Egypt.
The Foreign Secretary explained that, in addition to his discussions with President Sisi, Modi will engage with senior dignitaries from the Egyptian Government, notable personalities in Egypt, and the Indian community residing there. He further stated that Modi will visit the 11th century Al-Hakim mosque, which has been renovated by the Bohra community.
Kwatra said, the Prime Minister will pay homage to Indian soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice while fighting for Egypt in World War I by visiting the Heliopolis War grave Cemetery.
