Cloudflare has announced that its 1.1.1.1 resolver app is coming up with an added VPN.

The 1.1.1.1 service came out in November last year is currently attempting to speed up mobile data speeds by using Cloudflare’s network to resolve DNS queries faster than your existing mobile network.

Your web traffic can be an open book if it isn’t secured and proper measures aren’t taken. When your data travels over an unsecured connection, it can fall into the hands of anyone from your internet service provider to bad guys with tools to intercept it.

VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORKS (VPNs) can help protect your internet traffic from prying eyes. VPN services route your email, web browsing, and other internet activity through the service provider’s servers, making it appear to outsiders that you’re only accessing those servers. For example,VPN services help users in China, reach blocked sites by making it appear they’re accessing something else. They also prevent your internet service provider from snooping on the pages you visit, and encrypt web connections that might otherwise be exposed, a handy feature on public Wi-Fi networks.

What’s new is Warp:  It is a VPN built by Cloudflare that attempts to reroute your traffic to make it even quicker and also encrypts it where possible for added security and privacy. Setting up encryption manually on Cloudfare’s DNS server, while possible, required some Linux prowess.

Warp takes the next step by encrypting your connection to CloudFlare’s servers and aims to reduce data use by caching and compressing content where possible. Using it as a VPN also masks all internet traffic on your phone, including the rest of your apps.

“We built Warp because we’ve had those conversations with our loved ones too and they’ve not gone well,” said Matt Prince, CEO of Cloudflare, in a blog post.
