It has been 15 years now since Google launched its web-based email client Gmail on April 1st. Gmail went on to become one of Google’s most successful products.

Gmail has succeeded the likes of Hotmail and Yahoo, which were dominating the internet market back then. The service has also been deeply integrated within Google’s ecosystem. It’s also available as part of enterprise Gsuite applications.

Gmail is now 15 years old and, for its birthday, Google has announced a few updates for the service via its blog, including one that users have been eager to use for quite some time. Newly added features are:

Email Scheduling:

“We want to make it easier to respect everyone’s digital well-being,” Google’s blog post reads, “so we’re adding a new feature to Gmail that allows you to choose when an email should be sent.”

The idea here is as simple as the execution. The “Send” button now includes a drop-down menu that lets you schedule an email to be sent at a later time. Until now, you needed third-party services to do this, but now it’s directly integrated into Gmail.

Smart Compose:

Smart Compose tries to autocomplete your emails when you type them. It will now be able to adapt to the way you write the greetings in your emails. For example, if you prefer “Hey” over “Hi,” then Smart Compose will learn that and use it in the future. If you often fret over which subject to use for your emails, then there’s some relief here for you, too, because Smart Compose can now suggest a subject line based on the content of your email. Smart Compose is now available on all android devices and soon support for iOS will also be rolling down. Smart Compose is also coming to four new languages: Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese.
