Google has redesigned its Search app for iOS as well as Android. The company explained in a blog post that Aileen Chang has spearheaded the design overhaul. She said that they wanted to take a step back to simplify a little so that people can find out what they are looking for in a fast and easy way.

She explained further that rethinking the visual design for Search has been very complex. She said that Google Search has evolved so much over the year. She added that they are not just organizing the web information but also the information from all over the world. She said that they started with organizing web pages and now there has been a lot of diversity in the kind of content and information they have to help.

Google explained on a blog the five things that made them to redesign the Search and they are –

Information is key and in focus. google wanted the search results to ‘shine’ and allow people to only focus on information and not the other elements. Chang said in the blog that it is all about simplifying the experience and getting people the information they are looking for as clearly and quickly as possible.

Text will be more easy to read. Google will now use more large and bold text to assure that people can understand Search results faster. Chang said that they are making the result and section titles more bigger and the update also has more of Google’s own font which now shows up on Android and Gmail along with other products.

There will be more visual space on Search. The company has decided to make a new edge-to-edge results design and decrease the use of shadows and make it more easy to immediately see what we are looking for. The overall effect is that users will have more space and breathing room for Search results and other content to take the center stage.

The use of colours at the correct places. Google explains that it has focused more on centering content and images against a clear background and using more amount of color intentionally to guide the eye to important information without being overwhelming or distracting.

Now there is more of Google in the Search. The logo of Google has now more roundness in the Search. Google went for more rounded icons and imagery in other apps recently and now it is coming to Search. The Search bar and magnifying glass will be now more rounder in the Search.
