Just a few months back in July, we saw how everyone from common man to celebrities was in awe with the FaceApp which used AI(Artifical Intelligence) to age you. And now, a new and free deepfake face-swapping app ZAO is going viral in China. The app was released on Friday, and it took only a couple of days for the App to top the free charts on the Chinese iOS App Store. Similar to FaceApp, the creators of ZAO are also facing threats over user privacy. However, the good news is that it isn’t currently available to anyone who doesn’t own a Chinese number. Moreover, it isn’t listed on the UK or US App Store or Play Store.
The app is created by Chinese developer MoMo and similar to FaceApp uses AI tolet users deepfake their faces onto actors, singers, video game characters. All that users need to do is upload a single pic and the app will use that pic to map onto video clips for them. The results were found to be surprisingly convincing and unexpected.
Many users even took to Twitter to share how the app uses AI to seeze them into a celebrity video clip. Here’s an example:
In case you haven't heard, #ZAO is a Chinese app which completely blew up since Friday. Best application of 'Deepfake'-style AI facial replacement I've ever seen.
