Bangalore – a land of  traffic jam has made traveling very uneasy.  Bangaloreans still have to plan their regular activities considering the rush hours. People try avoiding their travel during the peak hours to be relieved from the mental frustration.  Many companies are flexible with their timings.  A major credit goes to the IT Companies as they have shift systems which help in managing the traffic.  The metro project in Bangalore is yet to show us better results.

60% of the population is non- resident of Bangalore, resulting in more traffic during the weekends or long holidays. The Highways are more crowded during these days as people are in hurry to rush their home towns. The chances of accidents are higher on the Highways.  Several accidents have been witnessed and cases have been filed. Thus, the Government has to take some steps.

The State Government has decided to upgrade Bangalore- Mysore Highway No.17 to a 6 lane from a 4 lane. The Union Ministry of Surface Transport has approved upgrading 1,680 km of State Highway into National Highway in the State. The Public Works Minister H.C. Mahadevappa had left for Delhi to seek permission to proceed with the extension work.  Mr. Mahadevappa said that the density of vehicles running on Bangalore-Mysore Highway had increased from 38,000 Passenger Car Units (PCUs) in 2007 to 78,000 PCUs now.

The major challenge in this project was the acquisition ofbangalore_Mysore_highway1 land as it involved huge investment. The Government had to spend Rs 1,066 crore for acquiring 533 acres of land as per the instruction of the union government, though the estimated cost was Rs 3000 crore. This move of the Government is highly appreciable as it would provide a hassle free travel to the residents. We also hope that there is a decrease in the accident cases.  Lets hope that this move of the Government would fetch us better results.

Bon Voyage!
