The entire city has been talking about Bangalore-Mysore Highway since a long time. There are frequent commuters to Bangalore and Mysore, thus making it the most occupied Highway at all the hours. Mysore is a tourist city and attracts a lot of Bangalorerans. There are many locals from Mysore who are employed in Bangalore and hence they travel frequently to their home town. Thus, the Highway has to be well maintained, to ensure the safety of the commuters. The occurrences of accidents are also highest in this Highway, due to humps and unstructured road. The 140 km Highway was always an accident prone zone, thus the Government had to come out with an action plan.

The Bangalore-Mysore State Highway was to be converted to National Highway, thereby making it 6 lane from 4 lane Highway. There are altogether 86 humps on the highway, out of which 28 speed breakers had been removed by the Government recently. The remaining 58 humps are still troubling the commuters. The officials from Public Works Department and the police have promised to remove these speed breakers at the earliest. The majority of the humps are found between Maddur and Srirangapatnam.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will soon commence the work on converting the existing highway between Bangalore and Bantwal (NH 275) into a six-lane road. The existing four-lane Bangalore-Mysore Highway would be part of the proposed NH 275. The NHAI will acquire about 533 acres of land between Jnanabharati junction and Mysore Ring Road junction. The speed breakers will not be required once the work is completed, except at the junctions.
