The Steel highway in Bangalore

Bangalore, an IT city is known for the initiatives that is taken to ensure a smooth life for Bangaloreans. The Government has taken up many developmental projects and constructional activities in the last 5 years. The metro and highways are the best of their projects.

 

The construction of a steel flyover was announced by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, 3 years ago, but no actions were taken. The forgotten project has regained a life now. The BBMP has started the process of calling for tenders for the project. The flyover is expected to be 310 meters long and 167 meters wide and connect commuters from Race Course Road towards Hare Krishna Road and the Railway underpass in Seshadripuram. Shivananda Circle is the intersection of Hare Krishna Road with Kumara Krupa Road.

The talks earlier were to start a steel flyover on JC Road connecting Hudson Circle. The process will be initiated earlier this year and the work is expected to begin in a month. The Shivananda Circle flyover will be the second steel flyover in Bangalore. The pre – qualification documents for structural fly over were already issued by the State Government on Wednesday at the e-procurement website. The prospective contractors can start applying for it. The pre-qualification document states that the estimated cost is Rs 11.48 crore which is lower than the 2011 estimate of Rs 17 crore.  It consists of the following:

 

The Tender work will start in August 2014, after which the construction work will begin. The flyover is expected to finish by 2015. The Steel structures are easy to install, can be pre – designed at the factory and can be installed at the site, thereby saving 50% of the time. The Steel highway is the most awaited one.
