The traffic is not only a major concern in the city, but also the traffic police atimes. I can related my personal experience as well as share the incidents which my friends went through when we encountered the traffic officials. As usual, I was returning home from work, and suddenly I was stopped by the traffic police. It definitely scared me initially, making me think if I was violating any of the traffic rules, till I realized that I was stopped for my documents to be checked. It did give me a sigh of relief for not being penalized, but it equally irritated me, considering the fact that my documents were constantly checked by one or the other officials. I wanted to question them, but their uniforms which reflected their power, silenced me.

The recent news did cheer me up and may be other residents as well who would have undergone the same process as I did. The new rule states that a commuter can refuse to show the documents to the constables if they are below the ASI rank. An ASI officer or an officer above ASI rank only has the authority to demand for the documents. The constables can only stop the vehicles to assist the SI, but not check the documents. The Indian Motor Vehicles Act, section 132 says that only one star, two star and three star police inspectors are authorized to receive the payments against violation and issue a receipt.

The commuters have the right to complaint to the senior police officials or to the traffic officials along with the following details:
Name of the Officer:
Place:
Time:

The senior officials also have to be careful before assigning the tasks to their subordinates. They should verify the rank of the officials and assign the task of checking the documents. This initiative of the government will definitely be a relief to the commuters, making , traveling more easy and comfortable. This will also be a lesson for the senior officials who have been assigning their task to the junior officers, ignoring their duty.
