After the declaration of ban by Indian government for Chinese apps, there are several urls which are being shared claiming that it would provide an alternate option for the functioning of the app in the country. People are requested not to share or  click on the urls as they are meant for stealing away the personal information of the user.

As per the reports of the Kapsersky it has been shared that these urls are being sent by cyber criminals in order to download malicious app. A message is being spread genuinely in order to get more downloads, informing people about the alternate option for downloading TikTok.

Once a “TikTok Pro” named app was installed on the device of the user, for reading the contacts the app asks for permission and then sends SMS. Followed by this the user is asked to fill in the credentials and click on any of the displayed advertisements for the app and install them. This is one of the ways of earning money which is done by cybercriminals.

It steals away all the information of the user and then sends text to all the numbers and this is how malicious link gets shared.

Igor Golovin who is the malware analyst has stated that these kinds of activities have shown that how rapidly cybercriminals are increasing and making the most out of the current situation.

  • Downloading of applications must be done only through the official app store.
  • Go through the list of app permissions before downloading the app which can help you in letting you know whether the app is safe or not.
