Google has officially launched the Kormo app to help people find entry-level jobs in India.

With a growing population and unemployment on the rise in the nation, companies are trying its best to provide the youth of this nation with jobs. Microsoft’s LinkedIn is like Instagram for professionals. The market covered by LinkedIn is massive.LinkedIn had about 24 million monthly active users on Android in the month of July.

Obviously Google won’t let Microsoft run away in this sector. So after getting success in Bangladesh and Indonesia last year, Google’s Kormo is now available in India. You can find it on Spot on Google Pay.

The spot is a section on Google Play where you can find jobs.

Since making Jobs available as a Spot, Google says a number of companies including Zomato and Dunzo — a Bangalore-based startup it has invested in — have posted over 2 million verified jobs on the platform.

Kormo also has its own app now on Google Play. At the start, it didn’t have any standalone app. It was only available on Spots on Google Pay.

Bickey Russell, Regional Manager, and Operations Lead at Kormo Jobs said “In the wake of the pandemic, the jobs landscape stands altered, with demand shifting to new services that require different sets of skills and experience. Businesses of all sizes face the challenges of the new normal, while job seekers are having to adapt to this shift quickly”.

How will it affect other apps?

Google is trying its best to get into this job section. They had also created a job section in their Google search section. The launch of People cards has also been a great initiative by Google.

The Kormo app isn’t anything like LinkedIn though. LinkedIn is very huge and popular compared to any other job or professional apps. But Kormo does have a good interface which also helps you in building your CV.

The reach of Google is obviously much more than LinkedIn though. Google reaches about 400 million users in India.

The only problem with LinkedIn is that it is not a dedicated job finder app. It has so many other features that the search jobs gets overshadowed at times. The Kormo is completely dedicated to search for entry-level jobs. LinkedIn has all types of jobs.

To get an ‘entry-level job’ is one of the most important steps of your career and if Kormo gets everything right, Google would help millions of young Indians who find it difficult to get an entry in their respective industry. It will also help Google rise their already high valuation and it will overshadow other sites and apps like glassdoor, monster, and maybe even LinkedIn.
