Google Play Store introduces new feature that lets users free up storage

Google Play Store

Android users now don’t have to go to the settings everytime they need to free up some space to download a new app. A new indicator on the Play Store itself will show how much space is left on the device. This indicator will also help remove unnecessary apps directly from the Play Store.

According to a report by DroidLife, the feature was spotted by Reddit user ‘ijazulhaqci’, where a new storage feature shows the amount of storage left on the user’s device. It also shows how much storage space is occupied and which apps use how much space.

Users can find this feature by going to Google Play Store, tapping on the main menu button on the left side of the search bar, going to My apps and games, and swiping to Installed tab. if you are running out of space and need to install a new app, just tap on the storage option and it will take you to a Free up space page where you can select the apps that you don’t use and click Free up button at the bottom.

The apps are listed in a way that shows the apps that have been used less at the top of the screen while the apps that have been used regularly will be at the bottom. This gives users an easy way to decide which apps to keep and which apps to remove.

This new feature turned up just a few days after Google removed as many as 85 adware apps from the store.

According to a report from researchers at security firm Trend Micro, these apps were disguised as games and TV and remote control simulators on Google Play. Before their removal from the store, these apps were downloaded 9 million times.
