We have been hearing rumors about the launch of Spotify in India for quite some time now. It seems the Swedish music streaming service might come to India by the end of January. Earlier this week, Spotify signed a deal with T-series, which is one of India’s largest music company. This deal will give Spotify access to the entire music catalog from the company. T-series has more than 160,000 songs in its catalog.

According to a recent report by Variety, Spotify will launch in India by January 31. According to Industry insiders, the popular music streaming service is yet to sign a deal with Sony, Universal, and Warner, which are some of the major record labels in India. However, some reports suggest that the company might launch its app without those labels. Spotify has already opened an office in Mumbai and reportedly hired 300 people already.

The app is expected to be in English languages while the music on the app will be available in regional languages including Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Bengali, besides Hindi music from Bollywood, the report said. The publication also notes that the company will be hosting a party in Mumbai on January 31, which will give the company some time to get more deals.

Even after securing the deals, Spotify will have to fight for its position because of the fierce competition from the likes of Gaana, Saavn, and Apple Music.

A report on November stated that Spotify in India will launch will an extended trial period that will be more than 30 days.

Spotify is currently available in 78 countries all over the world and according to the company it has 200 million users with 78 million of them being premium members.
