WhatsApp Beta version 2.19.101 is now rolling out to users, introducing a new feature which is being referred to as ‘Ignore archived chats’. This is essentially a relabelling of an old feature remembered as ‘Vacation mode’.

This feature was originally rolled out back in October 2018 and WhatsApp hasnow finally decided to add this feature with the current update. The feature allows users to mute archived chats in other words ‘Ignore archived chats’, to remain archived until the person has unmuted or unarchived it.

Currently, the messaging service automatically unarchives the archived chats when a user receives a new message from a friend or group. WhatsApp will also add a new Archived cell in the main Conversation window, that will appear when you slide down the chats list.

Whatsapp users will be able to enable this feature from the apps’ Notification Settings menu, after the official rollout of the update. WABetainfo said, ” Thanks to the ignored archived chats feature, things are going to change soon for archived chats: when the feature is enabled from your WhatsApp Notification Settings, archived chats won’t be unarchived when new messages arrive.”
Along with this, WhatsApp will also add a new Archived cell within the main chat window. Users will be able to find the Archived cell option in the drop-down menu of the chat window. The company hasn’t specified any timeline for the official rollout of the feature as it is still in the developmental phase.
The change is enabled by default on version 2.19.101 beta.
