WhatsApp for iOS

Whatsapp has promised a list of updates for its app on both Android and iOS and as a part of the upcoming features, WhatsApp is rolling out its latest authentication feature for all beta users on iOS. WhatsApp is said to be testing other new features which the company will enable its beta users to test after opening the first public beta program. The latest biometric authentication feature is available in the new 2.19.20.19 beta update published through TestFlight beta program. The update, which was first spotted by WABetainfo, now adds fingerprint authentication to the WhatsApp application on iPhones.

WABetainfo, who have always been on top of WhatsApp beta features and updates, reports that the users who have an iPhone X or above will resort to FaceID. In order to enable the biometric authentication, users will have to head to the WhatsApp settings, choose Screen Lock, and there they can choose to start the authentication feature for their devices. Nevertheless, the feature allows replying to messages directly from the phone’s locked screen as well as answering WhatsApp calls without any authentication.

The Fingerprint and facial ID data will remain encrypted and WhatsApp will not be able to get any of user’s biometric data.

Users will have to configure Touch ID or Face ID for the app according to their preferences and once the setting is configured users will have to reboot the application in order for the modified settings to take effect. When the biometric unlock security feature is enabled on WhatsApp, the preview snapshot of the app will go empty and will show nothing.

In another WhatsApp related news, Android users are complaining of a new and odd bug on WhatsApp that involves the ‘reply’ feature.

The bug keeps the reply context in the compose window even when the message has been replied to. First reported by WABetainfo, the issue has been persisting on the beta version of the WhatsApp for Android and has been confirmed by many users.
