In a big embarrassment to Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday, the nomination of its one of three candidates in Uttar Pradesh, Shweta Sharma from Gautam Budh Nagar Parliamentary Seat was rejected by the poll body. Her nomination was rejected after she failed to get 10 mandatory proposers in the nomination papers, the EC Official told.

Further revealing about the details, an EC Official said ‘As the per rules, Signatures of Ten mandatory proposers are required in the nomination form for any candidate who is not from a recognised national or regional party in a state’.

The Delhi ruling party is not a regional party in Uttar Pradesh as well is not a national party recognised by the poll panel.

District Magistrate and Returning Officer Brajesh Narain Singh told news agency PTI, that only one proposer is mandatory in case a candidate is from a regional party or a national party recognised by the Election Commission.

Singh added that ‘The nomination process for the Seat was allowed till March 25 (Monday) till 3 pm.  Tuesday was the day for scrutiny of nominations forms and the candidate was told to bring any document, a court order or directive, to substantiate her claim, but she failed to come up with none and had only one proposer in her form”

‘The decision to reject her nomination was taken after that’ Mr Singh said.
