New Delhi is unquestionably the most polluted cities in the world. Pollution is increasing rapidly with failed efforts by the Delhi Government. It has increased to a level where people are suffering from respiratory and skin diseases and even death. ISRO study showed the main reason of pollution are the higher possibilities of smoke aerosols being transported towards the downwind regions of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, resulting in accidental farm fires.

The ISRO study recorded: “Farm fire occurrences increased by 4% over Punjab and Haryana regions during October-November in 10 years between 2007 and 2017. The model-based analysis suggests that there is a high probability of transportation of smoke aerosols from Punjab and Haryana, towards down-wind regions of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.” This information was provided by the minister of state for the department of space Jitendra Singh to the winter session of Lok Sabha in a written response on Wednesday.

Regulatory actions against farmers have been taken by the Delhi Government. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) and State Pollution Control Boards have issued several directions to states to control stubble burning but without noticeable outcomes.

ISRO uses Indian Remote Sensing (IRS) satellite data, stubble burned maps are generated at the end of stubble burning activity in Kharif season.

But, according to the government’s air quality monitoring service, SAFAR-System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research, it may fall to a “very poor” category in another two days, and touch “severe” (400-500) by 21 November.

The winds are carrying stubble burning from the neighboring states to new Delhi, adding more to air pollution, which had come down to 3% last week, which may again rise to 13% on Tuesday.

Stubble Burning from the neighboring states is one of the main reasons for Delhi Pollution. It is a crop burning that happens from October to November leaving the country’s capital in smoke.
