In a big blow to Bhartiya Janta Party in the Sabarimala Issue, the party’s state committee member Vellanad S Krishna Kumar and another BJP leader Uzhamalakkal Jayakumar have quit the party.

Both of them accused the party of politicizing the Sabarimala Row and gaining Political Mileage out of it. Further, they said that they have decided to cooperate with the CPI(M) who stands for progressive politics.

Both the Party leaders were reportedly present at the venue where the party protested in front of the Secretariat where the party is on Indefinite Hunger Strike since December 3 demanding the withdrawal of prohibitory orders and reducing police restrictions at the hill-top shrine.

Both the Leaders, Jayakumar and Krishna Kumar while addressing a Press Conference said, ‘There is an intense atmosphere across the state with the ongoing Sabarimala Issue, but Bhartiya Janta Party was not even keen to hold a state committee meeting to discuss the issue’.

Both the leaders also accused the party and the parent – RSS of creating confusion over the decision. They alleged that earlier they welcomed the decision but later they changed the stand realizing that Political mileage could be made out of it.

They added, “The BJP state committee and the RSS leadership had a favorable stand on allowing women between the age of 10 and 50 to visit the shrine. The women of Young Lawyers Association are the ones who are connected to the RSS and the Sangh Parivar. They legally fought for the verdict based on gender equality. They had discussed with Sangh Parivar leadership in various phases of the case. When the Supreme Court judgment came, the BJP and other Sangh Parivar organizations unitedly welcomed it. Soon, they changed stand, realizing that political gains could be made out of it.

They accused BJP of handling the issue in a way that will create a divide in the society, apart from the divide between the Devotee and the non-devotee.

What is relevant is the politics which is capable of protecting secularism and to help those who have been marginalized through alternate policies. Hence we proudly announce our decision to cooperate with the CPI (M)” they said addressing a presser.
