Air India boarding pass

Bureau of civil aviation security (BCAS) has scrapped a decade old practice at the airports, which required Airlines to tear a part of the boarding pass of passenger and keep them handy for possible future verification. Once this decision is fully implemented, the boarding passes will not be torn before the passengers board the aircraft.

This move comes at a time when the government is trying to take initiatives to make air travel more accessible and hassle free. Recently, it had scrapped the practice of hand baggage stamping. Also, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently launched UDAN scheme to ensure connectivity of small cities with affordable air travel.

Also, the government seems to be working on establishing more secure entry points to the airport where passengers will be allowed entry using a mobile ticket and their bio-metric details.

At an event in New Delhi, Civil Aviation Secretary R N Choubey announced the move of scrapping the decade old rule and stated that the airlines can digitally keep a copy of details of the passengers boarding the plane. Keeping a part of the boarding pass is no longer necessary.

He also spoke about a number of initiatives taken by the civil aviation ministry and added that the main focus is on making the whole process more digitised in the coming years.
