Andhra Pradesh government ordered probe onto the seizure of 1381 kgs of gold by the Election Commission owned by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (temples) in the state.

Andhra Pradesh government ordered a probe into the 1381 kgs of gold owned  by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams in the state. The government asked Chief secretary L.V. Subrahmanyam and special chief secretary Manmohan Singh to probe any lapses in the transportation of the gold on the part of the Punjab National Bank (PNB). Three vans transporting 56 boxes containing 22 kg gold adding up to a total of 1381 kgs of gold.

The vehicle carrying the gold was seized by the Election Commission on in Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu, on April 17th. The chief secretary and special chief secretary of the state were asked to put out a report about the same by tomorrow, 23rd of April.

It was said that the PNB staff were returning the gold after its 3 month deposition period. The temple had written about the same to PNB officials after which they decided to release the gold. The value of the gold is estimated to be over 450 crore.
