Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, while addressing the state convention meeting indicated fresh strain amongst the party’s top leaders. He asked his party members to be aware of fake Samajwadi members.

Shivpal Yadav, brother of Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav son of the founder of the Samajwadi Party are in a battle for power amongst each other. While addressing the meeting the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh said that the fake members of SP have tried to stop the Samajwadi movement many times, and are even doing it now. He said that their one such conspiracy was the reason for the defeat of the party in Uttar Pradesh assembly election in 2017.

However, Akhilesh claimed that he has the support and blessing of his Father Mulayam Singh Yadav. “I want to say that ‘Netaji’ (Mulayam) is my father and his blessings will always be with me. We will take forward this ‘Andolan’ (movement),” he said.

During the meeting, the members present also unanimously elected Naresh Uttamos d as the party’s president in Uttar Pradesh. Akhilesh also spoke about the seats of Gorakhpur and Phulpur that are vacated by YP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya. He said that ahead of the Lok Sabha elections due in 2019, the party must gear up to get hold of the vacant seats.

The former Chief Minister also criticised the incumbent Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He accused the present BJP government led by Yogi, to make false promises to the people and fool them to come to power. He also spoke about the recent derailment accidents saying that the Central government led by Narendra Modi is responsible for these incidents. He demanded better rail services for Uttar Pradesh.

Around 15,000 Samajwadi party workers from across the state had gathered to attend the meeting. Apart from them, senior party leaders Ram Gopal Yadav, Azam Khan and Ram Govind Chowdhury were also present for the meeting. However, the founder of the party, Mulayam Singh Yadav and his brother Shivpal Yadav skipped the meeting.
