In the wake of Coronavirus, the Indian’s Bank Association on Wednesday took the decision to shorten branch hours and reduce bank staff by 50% since the number of infections among the bankers have increased proportionately. The bankers have been informed of the standard operating procedures. The Bank’s working hours shall be 10am to 2pm.

“Working hours (business hours) of the banks could be restricted to 10am-2pm. Doorstep banking activities should be encouraged,” the IBA letter to banks said as quoted by Business Insider..

The IBA has directed the state level bankers Committee to modify the standard operating procedure as per the situation prevalent at their place. It was highlighted in the SOP that the workers can be called to work on a rotational basis or some of them can be made to work from home as per their nature of work.

The Letter highlighted, “All SOPs regarding social distancing, management of the customers, health and sanitation, wearing masks and gloves etc which are highlighted in our previous SOPs should be strictly followed in all bank premises”.

The Banking Association communicated that the Banking activities were just reviving but this resurgence in Virus has again put an alarming question on its growth.
