The central government is all set to announce the biggest ever infrastructure project of the country. According to sources, Arun Jaitley, the union finance minister is holding a press conference later today in New Delhi and he might announce the same. The 83,000 kms long road network will take approx 5 years to complete and will connect a number of economic corridors across the country.

The first phase of the said project, which is expected to cover the making and expansion of over 40,000 ms road has already been approved. The first phase will cost approx ₹3.5 lakh crores. According to rumours, this might be the biggest announcement by the central government leading to the assembly polls later this year.

The complete project, expected to get over in 2 phases, will connect a total of 44 economic corridors and will improve the connectivity among the ports, economic corridors and other important cities. This will, at its full swing, generate over 32 crore days of work over the next few years. Also, a successful implementation of this step will ensure huge economic push for the government and private sectors alike.Under this project, the government also plans to provide uniform four-lane connectivity to all the major cities across the country.

According to an estimate, the present road conditions in the country allow a truck to cover an average distance of 250-300 kilometres every day, however, the same is over 800 kilometres in case of the developed countries.

According to analysts, this move will help the government counter opposition’s criticism. The opposition has often criticised the government for failing to create jobs.
