Ending months-long speculations, BSP supremo Mayawati on Saturday in a joint press conference said that both the parties have decided to come together to defeat the communal forces like BJP in Uttar Pradesh.

“We (BSP-SP) have decided to contest upcoming Lok Sabha elections together, this will lead to a new political revolution in the country,” Mayawati said in a joint press conference today in Lucknow, in presence of Samajwadi Party president chief Akhilesh Yadav.

“The alliance will give sleepless nights to BJP Chief Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi said BSP Chief in a Press Conference. Talking about the reasons behind leaving the Grand Old Party out of the alliance, Mayawati said: “Be it BJP or Congress, whoever rules, their policies are mostly the same. For example, we are seeing how both indulged in corruption in defence deals. Congress imposed declared the emergency, today there is an undeclared emergency”.

She added: Moreover, we won’t gain anything by including Congress in our alliance. Both BSP and SP have experienced in the past that Congress’s vote is not transferrable.

Both the parties have decided to contest on equal seats to avoid dispute.SP and BSP have agreed to contest 38 Lok Sabha seats each while the remaining seats will be left for the Rashtriya Lok Dal and other smaller parties. However, The ‘natural’ alliance have left Raebareli and Amethi – both stronghold of Congress Party. “BSP will contest on 38 seats, SP on 38 seats. Two Lok Sabha seats we have left for other parties and Amethi and Rae Bareli have been left for Congress” Mayawati said. Both of them have also decided about the name of the candidates set to contest from key constituencies.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi represents Amethi in Lok Sabha while his mother and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi is the member of Parliament from Raebareli.

Yadav in the presser said, “To defeat the arrogance of BJP, it was necessary for BSP and SP to come together. BJP can go to any extent to create differences in our workers, we must be united and counter any such tactic”

The top leadership of the SP and the BSP recently met in Delhi to discuss the broad parameters of an alliance to take on the BJP in the upcoming parliamentary elections just months away.

Meanwhile, Congress has reportedly started to go ‘solo’ in Uttar Pradesh.
