Bye-Elections Results: RJD Wins in Bihar, TMC in Bengal, Congress in Chhatisgarh and Maharashtra.Photo Credit: NDTV

The results announced on Saturday for the recently held Bye-Elections for Asansol Lok Sabha seat in West Bengal and for Assembly seats at Ballygunge in West Bengal, Khairagarh in Chhattisgarh, Bochahan in Bihar and Maharashtra’s Kolhapur North.

Bochahan in Bihar, RJD candidate Amar Kumar Paswan has defeated BJP candidate Baby Kumari with a margin of 36,658 votes. He secured 82,547 votes. By- poll for this constituency was necessitated due to the demise of Vikashsheel Insaan Party MLA Musafir Paswan. 

The party’s official twitter handle RJD Siwan thanked its voters on Twitter.

In West Bengal, the ruling Trinamool Congress today won the Asansol Lok Sabha constituency for the first time since the party’s formation in 1998 and retained the Ballygunge Assembly constituency, in West Bengal bypolls.

In Asansol, Trinamool candidate and former Union minister Shatrughan Sinha defeated BJP candidate Agnimitra Paul by a margin of over 3 lakh votes. This marks the Trinamool Congress’ first win in the Asansol Lok Sabha seat.

Accepting defeat, Paul said, “There were some shortcomings from our end because of which we had to face defeat…We’ll work at grassroots levels in the forthcoming days.”

In Ballygunge, Babul Supriyo of Trinamool defeated CPI(M)’s Saira Shah Halim by a margin of over 20,000 votes. Supriyo left the BJP to join the TMC last year, emerged victorious in the Ballygunge seat. 

Supriyo congratulated Sinha and wrote on Twitter, “Wish to see the faces of those jealous BJP ‘Netas’ who never acknowledged my hard work for a place I love-Asansol & mocked me by saying, “Even a Matchstick standing for @BJP4India wud win in Asansol. Love you Asansol for serving them a Slap on a platter.”

TMC chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee took to Twitter to thank the people of Asansol for a decisive mandate. “I sincerely thank the electors of the Asansol Parliamentary Constituency and the Ballygunge Assembly Constituency for giving decisive mandate to AITC party candidates,” she said.

Khairagarh assembly by-Poll, Congress candidate Yashoda Verma defeated her nearest rival Komal Janghel of BJP by a margin of more than 20 thousand votes.The by-poll was necessitated after the death of Janta congress MLA Devavrat Singh in November last year.

In Maharashtra’s Kolhapur North constituency, Congress candidate Jayashree Jadhav have defeated BJP candidate Satyajit Kadam by over 18,900 votes. The seat was vacated due to the death of Congress MLA Chandrakant Jadhav after which his wife Jayashree contested the bye election.
