Reinstated CBI Chief Alok Verma on Wednesday hours after assuming the office sends a strong message to the government by reversing the cancel orders of his loyalists in the office. Earlier on Tuesday, in a major setback to the Central government, Supreme Court reinstated CBI chief Alok Verma setting aside CVC order of October 23. The court said Verma could not be stripped of his powers but added that he could not take major policy decisions till talks with the Selection Committee.

Nageshwar Rao hours after taking charge in October transferred 13 CBI officials including the team that was probing Special Director Rakesh Asthana. Sources claimed that Alok Verma had a series of meetings with such officials on Wednesday at CBI Headquarters after which Alok Verma reversed all transfer orders passed by the Interim CBI Chief Nageshwar Rao.

Sources revealed that hours after Verma assuming the office on Wednesday, two officers of the agency, who were earlier probing Asthana’s case but were transferred by Rao hours after Verma was sent on forced leave, reached the CBI headquarters.

Later other officers who were transferred by Nageshwar Rao including  – Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) AK Bassi and Ashwini Gupta reached CBI headquarters on Wednesday. After which reinstated Chief Verma withdrawal all transfer orders issued by interim Chief Rao on Oct 24.

Alok Verma had moved to top sought to quash of three orders of October 23, 2018 — one by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and two by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), as being without jurisdiction and in violation of Articles 14, 19 and 21 of the Constitution.

Justice Kishan Kaul who pronounced the verdict on behalf of Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi on Tuesday said that the selection committee will be called within seven days from Tuesday to take a decision on the basis of the findings of the CVC inquiry into the

The Centre had taken a decision against Verma and CBI’s Special Director Rakesh Asthana after their feud become public as they made allegations of corruption against each other.
