A Delhi Court has permitted Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to interrogate the ‘middleman’ in AgustaWestland case, Christian Michel on Saturday.

Special CBI Judge Arvind Kumar permitted the prosecution agency to quiz Christian Michel In Tihar on December 5 and 6, during office hours. It is the first time that the CBI will examine Christian Michel as a witness in the case.

The CBI is probing a graft case against Brig VS Saini, the then Officer-in-charge of the trial team of the proposed procurement of 197 Reconnaissance and Surveillance (R&S) Helicopters for the Indian Armed Forces Army Aviation and Air Force in 2008.

As per the CBI, Brig VS Saini allowed M/s AgustaWestland, which was one of the three bidders to allegedly field a different variety of helicopter for the trial other than what it had mentioned in its technical as well as commercial proposal. According to the sources of the CBI, Saini allegedly not only allowed the fielding of a different variety of the helicopter, but also wrote a letter in 2010 to Weapon and Equipment Directorate in the favor of the company.
