Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday asserted in the Lok Sabha that the BJP-led Centre is ready to hold the Assembly Polls in Jammu and Kashmir.

The statement came while the discussion on the imposition of President’s Rule in Jammu and Kashmir was going on in the Lok Sabha.

The Centre on Friday told the Lok Sabha that Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik is left with no option other than imposing President’s Rule in the state. The reason given was that no party or alliance staked claim to form a government in the state. The resolution allowing the imposition of was adopted by a voice vote.

Rajnath Singh also outrightly rejected the claims from several opposition parties that the BJP was propping up a regional party to form a government in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that if BJP wanted to indulge in horse-trading to form its government in the state, it would have done that during the Governor’s Rule which lasted for six months.

Singh also cited the report by the then Governor NN Vohra which came in June. The report came after speaking with the leaders of all major parties and none of them expressed any intention to form a government. He declared that the Central government will not take any wrong or immoral action in Jammu and Kashmir.

Claiming that the Centre is totally committed to the democratic process, the Home Minister added that the BJP is ready for assembly polls but such a decision has to be taken by the Election Commission of India.
