In a massive setback to Congress, BSP supremo Mayawati announced that she will partner with Ajit Jogi and his party Chattisgarh Janta Congress. At a time when Congress was hopeful of contesting election with the support of BSP in all the three poll-bound states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chattisgarh, this has come as quite a disappointment for the party.

BSP chief Mayawati has said that this coalition is based on the same ideology and is formed for the welfare of the people. Out of 90 seats in Chattisgarh, 55 seats will be contested by CJC and the remaining 35 will be contested by BSP while Ajit Jogi will remain the chief ministerial candidate. After Ajit Jogi was expelled from the Congress Party he went on to form his own party named Chattisgarh Janta Congress Mayawati has also released the list of 22 candidates contesting the election in Madhya Pradesh.

In a joint press statement of both the parties released on Thursday, it said,” In the past 15 years, the development of the state has been compromised by the BJP-led governments. The poor have become poorer and the rich richer. Chhattisgarh was created to benefit 2.5crore people. The dependence on Delhi and the compulsions and inaction of BJP and Congress state leaders have proved to be a hindrance in the interest of people”. “This is an initiative to unite the OBC, Dalit, and other religious minorities and the united government will win the election with majority”, the statement read further.

According to the reports, lack of mutual agreement on seat sharing before elections with congress and its unwillingness to meet the demands of BSP chief, she decided to ally with CJC. The BSP shares quite a few loyal vote bank in Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh. It is imperative for congress to win the upcoming state elections otherwise the chances of winning 2019 Lok sabha elections might be negligent.
