Amid reports that Nirbhaya convicts will be executed soon, Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said that he wants all four convicts in Nirbhaya rape and murder case to be hanged at the earliest.

Speaking to the media, he said, “I want the convicts(in Nirbhaya case) to be hanged at the earliest, all formalities which are remaining should be completed immediately.”

A Delhi court will hear a plea seeking issuance of death warrant against four people, convicted in Nirbhaya case on December 18. The hearing has been deferred and will be taken up again on Wednesday, noting that a review petition of one of the convicts will be heard by Supreme court on December 17.

Nirbhaya’s mother, Asha Devi said, “When we have fought for 7 years, we can wait for another week. On December 18, their (convicts in the case) death warrant will be issued.” While Nirbhaya’s father said that the convicts are just a few steps closer to death.

Delhi’s Tihar Jail also asked Uttar Pradesh to provide two hangmen on short notice. Uttar Pradesh’s additional director general (prisons) Anand Kumar on Thursday, said that the department is ready to provide the hangmen.

23-year-old student Nirbhaya was gang-raped inside a bus by six people on December 16 in 2012 in Delhi. The victim was sexually assaulted and thrown on the road along with her male friend. Few days later, she succumbed to injuries. Out of the six convicts, one committed suicide in prison, while another, a juvenile, served maximum punishment of three years in a reform home and was set free in 2015. Other four convicts were later handed death sentence.
