Commuters to be more careful while driving amidst new traffic regulations

NEW DELHI: Those who drive on Delhi roads know that the rule of the jungle prevails there. Drivers often jump signals and overtake other vehicles, change lanes and drive on the wrong side. The traffic police in the national capital finds itself short on manpower to curtail people for reckless driving. Technology has finally come to their aid as far as encroaching the speed limit is concerned. Between February and July this year, over 39 lakh challans for ‘overspeeding while driving’ detected by a network or cameras were issued.

The speed limit across the city is set at 50 kmph. That’s the line you ought not breach, not only because the penalty has been hiked to Rs 1,000 from Rs 400 in the amended motor vehicle law. The primary concern is that after three such offences, one’s driving license would be suspended for 3 months.
