Congress party recently appointed new political leaders for its Haryana unit. Kumari Selja will be new President of Haryana Congress while former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda was selected as the chairman of the election management committee.
The decision was taken by high commands of the grand old party a few days ago. It was expected that the decision will bury the gap in the Haryana Congress unit which was divided between two factions led by Ashok Tanwar and Bhupinder Singh Hooda. In a surprise move, Congress Interim president Sonia Gandhi also appointed Bhupinder Singh Hooda as the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader.
The latest announcements will change the present structure of the Haryana Congress as Kumari Selja will take over the party reins from Ashok Tanwar, who was earlier the Harayana Pradesh Congress Committee Chief since 2014. Bhupinder Singh Hooda will replace Kiran Chowdhary as Congress Legislative Party leader.
The announcement comes at an important juncture when a few weeks ago, Bhupinder Singh Hooda had held his ‘Maha Parivartan Rally’ on August 18 in Rohtak, from where he declared that the Congress had “lost direction”. This was taken as his indication to leave the party. It was widely rumored that the leader might leave the Congress party and carve his own political path. Hooda has also shown his support to the repeal of Article 370 which didn’t go down well with the Congress party.
The decision is expected to revive lost power of the Congress party in the state which is almost ready to see the elections for its assembly seats. The announcements were made by former Union Minister and Haryana Congress in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad and party General Secretary, Organisation, K.C. Venugopal at the party headquarters in New Delhi.
