Congress party in Karnataka has been engulfed in internal strife over the post of “Leader of Opposition” in the state. In this internal battle of grabbing the chair, Top names include DK Shivakumar, G. Parameshwara and Siddaramaiah. Since all of them are senior party leaders, the battle becomes a reason of prime concern in Karnataka politics.
Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is said to be carrying the good image since he has completed his 5-year tenure in the state. On one side where 3 senior leaders are playing the game to reach for the coveted post of “Leader of Opposition” in the state assembly, the other scene comes with Congress preparing for Karnataka by-polls.
In such circumstances, the decision on disqualification of congress members carries great importance. Members of Congress-JD(S) moved to Supreme Court to challenge the order of State assembly Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar, who disqualified them under Anti-defection (under 10th schedule) law.
In the meeting convened earlier, various Congress leaders including Dinesh Gundu Rao, Rahman Khan, Siddaramaiah, KH Muniyappa, Veerappa Moily, Parameshwara, HK Patil, DK
Shivakumar, HC Mahadevappa, Ramalinga Reddy have given their suggestions for the post.
It is said that some of the Congress members are supporting the candidature of Siddaramaiah because of his experience and knowledge of finance & state issues. Shivakumar and Parameshwara are also said to playing the field by reaching out to other prominent leaders in the party.
Another interesting development in Karnataka politics is that Congress members are happy to be out of the alliance with JD(S). Both parties will go for seeking understanding in the local body polls.
