Congress party to turn it’s membership drive in digital mode; plan to move beyond traditional paper format

In a bid to transform the membership process, Congress party announced that it will embark on the new membership drive in a digital way. The party has decided to move beyond the traditional paper format.

It has been reported that the party is focusing on creating an integrated database of members. The party is also planning to roll-out a new app that will be specifically used for the membership drive. Speaking on the matter, AICC general secretary, KC Venugopal said that the membership drive in digital format will encourage the authentic membership. He said that the digital drive will also be convenient as a lot of paper will be saved.

It is expected that the party will begin its membership drive after the completion of Haryana assembly polls. According to the reports, Congress would launch this project first in Goa, Chhattisgarh and some regions of Uttar Pradesh in a pilot mode.

Data collected through the membership drive will be stored at every level- i.e. block level, assembly level, and state level. A senior official from the party said, “ Earlier, the Congress members would be done by taking down details in “receipt books” (kitaab) without any supporting documents taken as an individual’s proof.

Now, the app would be feeded with the individual’s telephone number, photograph, and election identity card. The digital format of membership will ensure that the data would not be faked or duplicated which might increase the discrepancies.
