Bhartiya Janta Party National President Amit Shah is scheduled to address a rally in Malda, West Bengal on 22 January reported ANI. However, a controversy over the Visit erupted after West Bengal Government refused to give permission to the state BJP to land party president Amit Shah’s chopper at the Malda airstrip that scheduled for Tuesday, January 22. The government, however, said the helicopter could land at the ground opposite Hotel Golden Park.

Amit Shah, who was diagnosed with swine flu, was discharged from AIIMS in the national capital on Sunday.

In a letter dated 18 January, Additional DM, Malda replied to BJP over permission for landing chopper at Malda airport on 20 Jan, states ‘Up-gradation work at Malda airport going on. Sand&material lying around. Airport not suitable for safe landing of the helicopter. Permission not possible’

However, Malda district administration has granted permission to BJP to land a helicopter on 22 January at the ground opposite to Hotel Golden Park in Malda where the helicopter of CM lands too.

Earlier BJP Malda General Secretary had written to Malda DM on 18 Jan stating ‘Malda airport is now being used by WB [West Bengal] government for landing their helicopter service every Wednesday. You’re saying that Malda airport us not suitable for safe landing, then why you are allowing helicopter of WB govt?’

BJP Senior Leader and Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “At same helipad Mamata ji’s helicopter landed few days ago. Some journalists went there, I have pictures, it is neat & clean. Helicopters are landing & can land. Based on baseless falsehood, by abuse of govt power, helicopter of Amit Shah ji had been denied”.

While TMC Supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee slammed BJP for misleading people over the issues. Banerjee, as quoted by ANI, said, “Permission given but there are security issues. Police had said chopper(Amit Shah’s)should land at some other place,I also change my chopper’s landing on police request. We granted permission for meeting as we believe in democracy. They(BJP)are distorting info&misleading ppl”

Earlier on January 15, Supreme Court refused to give a go-ahead for the BJP’s Yatra in West Bengal. The Apex Court, however, said that the BJP state unit can conduct meetings and rallies. SC said, if BJP comes out with a revised plan of fresh Yatra, that may be considered afresh later.
