Congress party while speaking to the media at the party headquarters on Tuesday called on centre to organize an all-party meet to apprise leaders about Jammu and Kashmir situation.

Congress leader Anand Sharma said that party is very much concerned over the ‘shutdown’ and ‘restrictions’ in the valley. Therefore it asked the ruling government to take every political party in confidence regarding the situation in Kashmir. Sharma also questioned about the whereabouts of detained leaders which includes former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. He asked to release the leaders from detention.

Anand Sharma called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to take the Opposition leaders into confidence. he also urged that it is a high time an all-party meeting should be held.

As quoted by ANI, he said, “How does it matter? We need a complete reassurance about the normalcy returning and peace prevailing and peoples’ rights being fully respected. Home Minister of India is free to travel anywhere. The Opposition leaders must also be
given the same right and freedom to travel to the Kashmir valley and to Jammu to meet with the people. You cannot say that everything is normal and not even permit the Opposition leaders and keep the former CMs in detention The Government has to be credible.”

He also took a jibe on J-K Governor Satya Pal Malik’s invitation by calling it a “patronizing” invitation. He told that Rahul Gandhi wants to go there as a political leader to exercise his rights.

He also expressed the will of his party which wants peace and normalcy in the region. He further said that Congress does not want any country to take any advantage of the situation.

Political tensions between the ruling government and opposition parties have been on the rise since the centre announced scrapping of Article 370.
