The Election Commission of India is likely to announce the schedule for the Lok Sabha elections 2019, likely to be conducted over 7-8 phases in April-May, as said by sources.

Sources also revealed that the Commission is in its final phase of completing its logistical preparations for holding the 17th Lok Sabha and a detailed schedule for the awaited event could be announced as early this weekend or by next week.

On 3 June 2019, the term of the present Lok Sabha is to end.

The announcement of dates for the elections, would also be followed by a meeting of election observers for the first and second phase of polling.

Sources suggested that the notification for the first phase could be issued by the end of March and further for ‘voting’ some time in early April, as speculated.

As speculated that there is a strong consideration that the Election Commission may conduct the  Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Odisha and Arunachal Pradesh, along with the Lok Sabha 2019.

The Election Commission is also bound to hold fresh polls in J&K, as Assembly there is dissolved.

Also, all political parties there agreed for the elections to be conducted simultaneously, in J&K during a meeting with the Election Commission earlier this week.

The term of the Sikkim Assembly ends on 27 May, 2019.
Following that, the terms of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Arunachal Pradesh assemblies are scheduled to end on 18, 11 and 1 June respectively.

Previously in 2004, the Election Commission announced four-phase Lok Sabha polls on February 29.

In 2014, the Election Commission announced the election schedule on 5 March for the nine-phase electoral exercise held.
