The J&K administration under the Governor Satya Pal Malik decided to extend the date for the depositing arrears of the second installment giving an amnesty to the stakeholders, said an official communique.

Earlier, hearing to the request of various stakeholders, the administrative council led by Jammu and Kashmir Governor extended the date to 31 March, to address and mitigate the problems and inconvenience faced by the dealers in depositing their respective installments.

It is worth mentioning that the second installment was due from 2001 dealers, out of which only 817 dealers have deposited the second installment. As per the provisions, it is necessary for the dealers to pay the arrears, assessed/re-assessed /admitted up to the accounting year 2016-17 in three equal installments. The due date for depositing second installment was 31st January, 2019

In February 2018, Jammu and Kashmir government announced an amnesty scheme under which 100% remission of penalty and interest on arrears of tax will be provided under the provisions of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir Value Added Tax (VAT) Act, 2005, and J&K Sales Tax Act, 1962.
