Delhi Assembly soon to go paperless

NEW DELHI: In the next three months, Delhi Assembly is to go ‘paperless’ as part of an ambitious project. Each MLA will receive a tablet to keep abreast of the House proceedings. MLA seats will also have LCD screens through which they would see the businesses during sessions.

Delhi government has sanctioned Rs 20 crore to fund the project. The assembly’s technical advisory committee has approved the proposal. It will be sent to the finance department of the Delhi government for further procedure.

“In the next three months, Delhi Assembly will go paperless. MLAs can also see from home whether their questions to be asked during the session have been chosen. The project will be executed with financial help from the Delhi government which has sanctioned Rs 20 crore for the same,” speaker Ram Niwas Goel said.

According to a senior official, the legislators will be given tablets so that they are well-informed about House proceedings in advance. National Informatics Centre (NIC) is providing technical support to the assembly secretariat in executing the project.

An agency will soon be hired to execute the ‘dream project’ of the speaker, an official said.
