The new Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora while talking to an English news daily on Thursday said that Political Parties have the right to criticize the institution but cannot make the Election Commission a part of their Political Brickmanship. Giving stress on the credibility of the electoral process, Sunil Arora said for Decades have the led the process that made the election of various political parties to the power across the state and EVMs cannot be vilified in case of Result X and deemed ‘okay’ in case of Result Y.

Sunil Arora who took the charge as the Chief Election Commissioner on December 02, will look after the conduct of Lok Sabha Elections 2019, and assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Odisha, Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Bihar, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir before retiring in April 2021.

Responding upon the allegations made by many Political Outfits for ‘favoritism’ Arora said, “My colleagues and I would carry out our duties in tune with the spirit of the Constitution. The interactions with political parties that I have in the Commission headquarters has always been very pleasant. I cannot account for what one says to the media after stepping out. You should ask them.”

He also responded to the questions regarding a delay in the counting process of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. He said that institutions’ priority is to declare that result correct rather declare it quick.

Earlier this week in recently concluded Assembly Polls 2018, Unlike the quick counting of votes for the state assembly elections in Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram, counting in Madhya Pradesh Elections and Rajasthan Elections went on at a snail’s pace, keeping people in general and the political parties in particular on tenterhooks throughout the day. The Election Commission could only announce results on all seats after almost 24 hours on Wednesday in ECI Website.
