Chairman of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) G Satheesh Reddy visited Kalam memorial at Rameswaram and promised to take action into the issues concerning the memorial.

“Almost all issues were resolved well before his visit. Mainly the toilets and drinking water issues have been resolved now. The parking lot near the memorial is held up for want of land that needs to be transferred from the Tamil Nadu government,” a DRDO official from Delhi told Onmanorama.

“We have instructed to clear the balance payments to the local contractors. Some have already been released and the remaining will be cleared soon. DRDO doesn’t want to be pulled into any controversies. There were some lapses at my part that have been set right now… Almost all issues were resolved well before his visit. Mainly the toilets and drinking water issues have been resolved now. the parking lot near the memorial is held up for want of land that needs to be transferred from the Tamil Nadu government,” he said.

“We are keen to take the national memorial to the next level. We have given our representation and Dr Reddy has promised to look into it. we are happy that the DRDO Chairman is serious about the memorial matters. The communication channels are open now,” Dr. Nazima Maraikayar, founder trustee of Kalam Memorial told Onmanorama.

The Kalam Memorial was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi at ‘Pei Karumbu’ in Rameswaram on July 27, 2017. According to the PM, Dr. kalam reflected the ‘simplicity, depth and calmness’ of Rameswaram. At the event the PM had also flagged off an express train, ‘Shraddha Setu’, from Rameswaram to Ayodhya. The Kalam Sandesh Vahini was also flagged off at the event.
