Following protests from university students, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has directed that student passes will be treated valid for travel in DTC AC buses starting from 1st September.
Crowds of college students protested outside the Chief Minister’s residence demanding the validity of the passes in DTC AC buses with effect immediately, especially for nearby residents’ daily commute.
Kejriwal had promised the students to put this proposal in effect back in January but it had not been implemented. Since the demand had not been met for 6 months, the protest was ignited. The protest was fuelled up due to travel costs and expensive travel facilities.
The protests were followed by Kejriwal’s tweet the same day. Kejriwal tweeted instructing the transport minister to fast-track the proposal.
The transport minister Kailash Gahlot immediately acknowledged and affirmed to approve the action.
