The student unit of the Congress, NSUI, has got great success in the Delhi University Students Union election. NSUI has occupied the position of President and vice president. In the race of the president, Rocky Tusheed of NSUI defeated Rajat Chaudhary of ABVP. At the same time, the Vice President’s post has also been captured by NSUI’s Kunal Sehrawat. Kunal Sehrawat defeated his opposition candidate by 175 votes. ABVP has occupied the post of joint securities and securities.

There was a dramatic turn in the counting of votes, initially, it was declared that NSUI had won three major positions but later it was confirmed that ABVP won 2 seats whereas NSUI also won 2 seats. A tough battle between both the parties could be seen during the counting. All eyes were on the results as ABVP had been the main party to occupy the majority of the seats in DUSU from the past four years. Questions of a fifth consecutive term were being raised by everyone. However the speculations were cleared when, in the initial round, ABVP had an edge over four positions, then NSUI later made an edge. Last year ABVP had occupied 3 out of 4 seats in the Central Panel of Dusu.

NSUI was facing a defeat for the last 4 years in the elections of DUSU. Four years later the NSUI has been successful in occupying the post of Chairman and Vice President. However, last year, the NSUI’s Mohit Garid had beaten the post of Joint Secretary.

NSUI was expecting that it will be successful in winning this year, but just before the election, NSUI’s campaign for the candidacy of Rocky Tussid had to be stopped after the cancellation of his nomination and the party had to forcefully campaign for its second candidate Alka. But after the decision of the High Court in favour of Rocky Tussid, the change of President’s candidacy of NSUI became a state of confusion among DU students.

Compared to the last year, more votes were registered this year. Last year, where 36.9 per cent of the votes were recorded in the DUSU elections, 44 per cent of the votes were cast in the 32 colleges of Morning College this year. According to the election committee, 34,051 students of the 77,379 students of the morning college voted in the election. Voting started in morning colleges was a bit slow initially, however, after 11 o’clock, students crowded in the polling campus.

Evening college students also took part in the elections. Due to the election of USU, the Delhi University was completely converted into a cantonment with police deployed outside all the 51 polling booths.

To prevent bogus voting no one was allowed to go inside the college without an identity card. The enthusiasm of students who voted for the first time was evident. On one hand, while the candidates were busy appealing for votes till the last time, the political figures and former DUSU officials, who were associated with student organizations, also appeared to campaign for their respective panels.
