The Poll Commission of India on Wednesday served a notice to Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu for making personal remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing a public meeting on April 17.
Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on April 17 slammed PM Modi and called him a “biggest liar”.
The Poll Commission in a notice stated that it has found the ‘Sidhu’s remark’ a violation of the poll code prima facie. However, Sidhu has been asked by the Poll Commission to file a reply explaining his stand and why such a statement was given at first place.
ECI has asked him to reply by 6 pm today (Thursday).

Earlier on April 22, Taking strong cognizance against Congress Leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, The Election Commission of India barred Punjab Minister from Campaigning for 72 hours. He has been booked by the Poll Commission for violating the model code of conduct for making religious sensitive comments while addressing a poll rally in Bihar’s Kathihar District.
In a poll rally, Sidhu has asked Muslim voters to avoid division of votes and should refrain from voting to Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM.
While on Wednesday, EC issued Notice to Rahul Gandhi for hir tribal remark which he made during a rally in Madhya Pradesh’s Shahdol. Earlier on Wednesday, the Election Commission gave a clean chit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his April 9th speech at Latur District of Maharashtra.
Addressing a rally in Maharashtra’s Latur last month in April, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the first time voters to contribute their first vote to the Pulwama martyrs and Balakot air strike.
General Elections have already begun and would spread on Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19.
Counting of Votes and Results for the mega Battle of ballots will be announced on May 23 four days after the 7th phase of voting. Phase-V is slated for May 6.
