The Election Commission on Indian on Sunday clarified that a jumbo size M3 EVM will be used for Lok Sabha Elections in Nizamabad Parliamentary Seat in Telangana where as many as 185 Candidates are in the fray.

The Official release of the Poll panel clarified that Ballot paper will not be used in the polls in the parliamentary constituency as reported in various sections of media. Earlier it was expected that with over 180 candidates in the fray, poll panel will use the ballot papers for polling.

The Election Commission of India has also sent instructions to State Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar notifying the same.

According to an official release by the poll body, the Election Commission of India has asked the state authorities not to use Ballot paper for polling and instead procure M-3 sized  Jumbo EVMs for the polling in Nizamabad Lok Sabha Seat.

The Poll panel also directed the Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) for immediate supply of 26,820 ballot units (BUs), 2240 control units (CUs) and 2600 VVPATs of M3 make for the elections.

Each normal EVM can only bear 16 names of Candidates while a control unit can take a record of 4 such EVMS, that means a maximum of 64 Candidates.

Nizamabad has a total of 1.5 million voters. Telangana CM KCR‘s Daughter Kalvankuntla Kavitha is the sitting MP from Nizamabad’s Lok Sabha seat and seeking another term from the same seat.

Apart from Kavitha, Congress candidate Madhu Yashki Goud and BJP candidate Aravind are the main contenders for the parliamentary Seat of Nizamabad. Out of the all 185 candidates, 178 farmers filed nominations to highlight their demand for remunerative prices for turmeric and red jowar crops.

Telangana’s all 17 seats will go to polls on April 11, on the first phase of voting.

Similarly, In 1996 national elections in the Nalgonda constituency in the Andhra Pradesh, 480 candidates filed their nominations in a protest against safe drinking water for the fluoride affected villages of their district. The Poll Panel had to conduct the elections on the ballot paper that year on the Nalgonda Seat.
